Waste to Energy Programme Scheme
The Waste to Energy (WTE) Programme was started by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) under the National Bioenergy Programme. Its primary objective is to support the establishment of projects that generate biogas, BioCNG, power, or producer/syngas from urban, industrial, and agricultural wastes and residues.
Objectives
- ☉ Promote the conversion of various waste streams into clean energy.
- ☉ Provide financial and technical support for setting up WTE projects.
- ☉ Reduce urban and rural pollution, manage organic waste efficiently, and produce renewable fuels.
Scheme Period
- ☉ The scheme is operational from FY 2021-22 to FY 2025-26.
Eligible Components
- ☉ Total Project Cost excluding land
Features
-
☉ Central Financial Assistance (CFA): The programme provides CFA to project developers for the successful commissioning of WTE plants. Service charges are also offered to implementing and inspection agencies.
- ☉ Eligible Projects: Projects generating Biogas, bioCNG/Enriched Biogas/Compressed Biogas, Power, or producer/syngas from waste are eligible.
- ☉ Special Category States/UTs: Plants in North East, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands receive 20% higher CFA.
